The True Mobile Health app has many features which support clients in addiction or behavioral health recovery.  This includes mood emojis to communicate current feelings without fear, activity goals, HIPAA compliant testing and wonderful, support resources.  TMH also has a GPS monitoring component, The Journey Tab.   There are some common misconceptions about this feature of the app. Initially some mistakenly think of it as surveillance.  However, once explained both staff and client realize it’s an opportunity to improve previous accountability issues with loved one’s and supervision.

Once informed the client is then reassured of the benefits of this feature.  The GPS system and Journey tab on the True Mobile Health app serves a purpose.  It’s daily purpose to help coaches identify when a client goes to one of their danger zones, to a location where they are more at risk.  It prompts a coach check-in with the client.  But in certain circumstances, and unfortunately, all to frequent circumstances, IT SAVES LIVES!  No, that is not an exaggeration, the GPS system and Journey tab on the True Mobile Health app has saved lives and avoided relapses.

A patient of True Aftercare, the coaching service predecessor to True Mobile Health, was not doing well.  In fact, she had determined to end it all.  Her roommate found her suicide note and a lock of hair that she had left at her apartment.  In a panic, the roommate started calling everyone she could think of.  High on that list was a call to the clients True Aftercare coach.  The coach used the GPS system and Journey tab on the True Mobile Health app,  and was able to locate the client.  Lifesaving support was sent and arrived just in time.

Risk behaviors can be identified to help prevent relapse.

In another situation, a sober living facility saved a relapse with the GPS system and Journey tab on the True Mobile Health app.  The sober living client was at their IOP for the morning.  At least, the sober living facility thought he was at IOP.  Instead, he was dealing with temptations and triggers, but he wasn’t seeking support.  The IOP called the sober living facility asking about the client.  The sober living utilized the GPS system and Journey tab on the True Mobile Health app to find the client and intervene before the relapse had occurred.  The client returned safely to their recovery.

The GPS system and Journey tab on the True Mobile Health App, although often initially misperceived, becomes a valuable recovery tool.  One that simply supports a client reinstating their accountability and trust with their support network.  One that will save their lives should they decline towards relapse.
